A devastating wave of Russian missile strikes has left at least five people dead, a million without power, and widespread destruction of critical infrastructure across Ukraine.
The barrage of attacks targeted energy infrastructure, resulting in power outages affecting vast swathes of the country. Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has been plunged into darkness, with regional authorities confirming the complete loss of electricity. Additionally, over 53,000 households in Odesa are grappling with power disruptions.
Ukraine’s Energy Minister, German Galushchenko, condemned the strikes as an attempt by Russia to trigger “a large-scale failure of the country’s energy system.” He accused Russia of indiscriminately targeting vital infrastructure in an act of aggression.
Russian authorities justified the assaults as retaliatory measures against recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced the strikes as unjustifiable acts of aggression and urged Western allies to provide urgent military aid, including additional air defense systems.
