The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has raised concerns over the intensifying heat across the country, warning of potential heat stress and thunderstorms in various regions on Saturday.
“Heat stress sets in again. The general public should take necessary precautions,” NiMET warned.
In a Weather Report released from its headquarters in Abuja, NiMet cautioned citizens about the soaring heat index and increased likelihood of heat-related health issues.
NiMet stressed the importance of staying well-hydrated and advised individuals to limit strenuous physical activities, particularly during the peak hours between 12 noon and 4 pm.
Oyegade Adeleke, AGM Climate Service, Nimet, identified global warming as the cause of the extreme heat, stating that some regions of the country will get relief by April.
