The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party (LP), led by Comrade Julius Abure, has lambasted the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by Joe Ajaero, labeling them as “bad students of history” following what they perceive as a futile attempt by the labour union to take over the LP.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, in Abuja on Thursday, the party expressed disappointment at the actions of the NLC, emphasizing the importance of learning from past events.
According to reports, he continued by highlighting the NLC’s failure to heed the lessons from their previous endeavors, expressing surprise at their persistence in pursuing a similar course of action.
He said, “Where people refuse to learn from history, history will continue to repeat itself.
“When the Nigeria Labour Congress in 2015 attempted to crookedly take over the leadership of the Labour Party and wrote INEC, INEC replied them that they have no locus standi to interfere or change the leadership of the party.
“They have failed to learn from that trajectory and it is surprising that Joe Ajaero’s NLC is also taking the same line of action and trajectory and they are expecting a different result.
“A reasonable NLC would have been thinking of how to consolidate with the leadership of the Labour Party having made huge exploits and having achieved great results from the 2023 general election rather, they have chosen a collision cause which will neither help them nor help Nigerians.”
The statement reflects the LP’s frustration with the NLC’s recent activities and underscores their belief that such actions are counterproductive to the interests of both the labour union and the Nigerian populace.
