The Kwara State Fire Service has issued a cautionary notice to residents following a recent fire incident in the state capital, Ilorin. The alert comes as the service reveals the cause behind the inferno that occurred near Akins filling station in the Gaa-Akanbi area.
The outbreak, which transpired on Friday, engulfed a four-bedroom flat building around 05:51 pm. Upon receiving a distress call, the fire service promptly dispatched its firefighting team to the scene.
Arriving swiftly, firefighters initiated firefighting operations to contain the flames and prevent further spread of the fire. Utilizing specialized equipment and firefighting techniques, they worked diligently to bring the situation under control.
Despite one bedroom being affected by the blaze, the efforts of the fire service personnel minimized damage, preserving numerous tangible properties from destruction.
Hassan Adekunle, Head of the Media and Publicity department, praised the firefighters for their exceptional performance in mitigating the impact of the fire. Adekunle emphasized that the cause of the inferno was attributed to a power surge.
Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures such as switching off electrical appliances before bedtime. This practice, he emphasized, reduces the risk of fire outbreaks in homes and significantly mitigates potential damages.
