Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, has extended heartfelt sympathies to the victims of a recent fire incident that ravaged Megida Onikanhun Compound in Edun market, Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. The fire, which consumed several properties, including a mosque, left the community in shock.
Senator Mustapha, conveyed his condolences through a high-powered delegation led by the Deputy Director General of his constituency office in Ilorin South, Hon. Abdulkareem Tunde Popoola. The delegation visited the scene of the incident to assess the damages and show solidarity with the affected residents.
Describing the incident as shocking and devastating, Senator Mustapha expressed his sympathy for the families and residents affected. He urged the victims to find solace in the fact that lives were spared despite the loss of property.
The Senator also emphasized the need for residents to remain vigilant during the harmattan season, advising them to promptly alert firefighting services and exercise caution to prevent fire outbreaks.
“The distinguished received the news of the inferno a while ago and he was devastated by it. He’s away abroad but raised this delegation to solidarize with the family and assess the situation,” stated Hon. Abdulkareem Tunde Popoola during the visit.
Senator Mustapha commended the swift response of the Kwara State Fire Service in containing the fire and preventing its spread to other buildings. He acknowledged the earlier visit of Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and pledged to collaborate with the Governor’s intervention efforts, working in conjunction with Hon. Yinka Aluko, PhD, the representative of the Ilorin East and South federal constituency.
