The new executives of the Kwara State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) seek cooperation of the state judiciary for the creation of a business dispute resolution court.
KWACCIMA who made the call during a courtesy visit to the Hon. Chief Judge of Kwara State, Hon. Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara; charged the state judiciary to designate some courts to solely handle business matters.
President Of KWACCIMA, Chief Mrs Ronke Adeyemi, while speaking during the meeting stated that a business resolute court has already been created in Lagos, Kaduna and other states.
She, however, stated the desire of KWACCIMA to work with the judiciary to smoothen the process of creating a business resolute court and also seek support of the judiciary in staging the trade fair.
“Goal today is to seek the cooperation of the Kwara State judiciary on what can be done about dispute resolution through the court.”
“We feel hope that the Kwara state judiciary can designate some courts that would solely handle commercial matters. This is already at play in Lagos, Kaduna, etc. We can even have one high court that handles economic/commercial disputes also.”
“We are ready to work with the Judiciary to smoothen the process of putting this into action in Kwara State.”
“We are also holding a trade fair at the end of the year, and we are hoping for the support of the Judiciary in staging the trade fair. Setting up an ADR centre to settle disputes at the trade fair.”
Hon. Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara, on his part, offered to collaborate with KWACCIMA in creating the dispute resolution court.
He further stated that the judiciary has taken some steps to create the business resolute court, adding that the state judiciary will support KWACCIMA in staging the Trade Fair in 2023.
“Whatever area we can collaborate in regards to alternative dispute resolution, I would gladly key into it as well.”
“The president of KWACCIMA suggested designating a court for commercial disputes. We have taken some steps towards this by trying to set up a “small case court” for settling commercial disputes, e.g; commercial disputes in the range of 1million, etc.”
“The Judiciary would also collaborate with KWACCIMA in the trade fair to be held at the end of the year. Setting up an alternative dispute resolution centre is a good idea.”
