The European Union has fined Apple over one point eight billion euros for obstructing Spotify and other music streaming services from informing users about alternative payment options outside of its App Store.
This decision, prompted by a 2019 complaint from Spotify, highlights concerns over Apple’s App Store fees, which amount to thirty percent of transactions.
EU’s antitrust chief, Margrethe Vestager condemned Apple’s decade-long abuse of market dominance, stressing the illegality of restricting consumer access to cheaper alternatives.
Meanwhile, Apple has plans to challenge the decision, citing a lack of evidence of consumer harm.
