The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended eight suspects believed to be involved in the brutal killing of several policemen in the Ughelli area of Delta State. This development comes on the heels of last week’s arrest of five individuals linked to the murder of officers in the same incident.
The tragic event unfolded on February 23 when a group of armed assailants ambushed a team of officers who were on a mission to investigate the disappearance and rescue of three of their colleagues in the Ohoro Forest of the state.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that intensive investigative efforts led to the arrest of the eight suspects, bringing the total number of individuals in custody to 13.
Adejobi emphasized the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring swift and decisive justice for the fallen officers, asserting that the suspects would soon face trial with credible evidence once investigations are concluded.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Adejobi expressed the deep sadness of the police force over the reprehensible act of violence perpetrated against officers who were diligently performing their duty to protect and serve the community.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased officers and assured the public that all those involved in the heinous crime would be brought to book.
“We wish to reiterate that killers of our officers in this extant case, and many others, have murdered peace, and none of them will go unpunished,” Adejobi vowed, underscoring the determination of law enforcement to uphold justice and uphold the integrity of the force.
