The Nigerian Army has taken decisive action against two soldiers, Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani, accused of involvement in the theft of armoured cables at the Dangote Refinery on April 14, 2024.
it was reported that the soldiers were reportedly apprehended at the company’s main gate with 897 armoured cables that had been cut to size, prompting their dismissal from the army.
Confirming the dismissal in a statement issued on Monday, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, emphasized the military’s commitment to upholding professionalism, integrity, and discipline.
The soldiers were found guilty of abandoning their duty post and being in unauthorized possession of the stolen materials after a thorough investigation conducted in collaboration with the management of the Dangote Refinery.
According to Major General Nwachukwu, the soldiers were charged with failure to perform military duties and other civil offences under the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
“As a demonstration of NA’s zero-tolerance for misconduct and criminality within its ranks, the two soldiers have been dismissed from the NA with immediate effect and handed over to relevant authorities for further prosecution.”
Following a summary trial where evidence was presented and the soldiers were allowed to defend themselves, they were found guilty as per military laws.
