President Bola Tinubu has greenlit a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s education sector, aiming to enhance learning, skill development, and ensure the academic well-being of the nation’s children. Among the approved initiatives is a census for all schools across the country, from basic to tertiary levels.
In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday, April 18, the approved policies, summarized as DOTS (Data Repository, Out-of-School Children Education, Teacher Training & Development, and Skill Development & Acquisition), aim to address critical issues within the education system.
According to reports, one key aspect is the lack of coordinated, verifiable, and authentic data on various facets of the education sector in Nigeria.
To remedy this, President Tinubu has given the green light for an extensive census of all schools nationwide, including primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions. This census will cover factors such as infrastructure, facilities, proximity to one another, and living conditions.
