Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has denounced the nationwide protest organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), labeling it as unnecessary despite ongoing economic challenges.
As reported by Dailytrust, the protests, led by NLC President Joe Ajaero, unfolded in key urban centers including Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, and Jos, drawing participation from a spectrum of prominent figures such as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, and political activist Omoyele Sowore, among others.
In response to the demonstrations, Ngelale condemned the actions of the NLC, asserting that the federal government has already taken steps to address the prevailing hardships faced by Nigerians.
“We have seen the Trade Union Congress (TUC) pull out of the purported nationwide protest. We have seen the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) pull out of the protest. There is no unanimity behind what NLC is trying to do. I believe all of the legitimate concerns being raised by the unions are being tackled by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.”
Speaking to newsmen, Ngelale suggested that the absence of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) from the protest underscored its unwarranted nature.
Ngelale pointed out that the withdrawal of support from organizations such as the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) underscored a lack of consensus regarding the necessity of the protests.
