The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a press release demanding transparency from Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq regarding the controversial auction of Kwara Hotel properties and the planned N17.8 billion renovation.
The PDP urged the Governor to provide a comprehensive breakdown of the amount generated from the auctioning of Kwara Hotel properties. The party expressed concern over the lack of public information on the income generated, the whereabouts of the funds, and other technical details associated with the auctioning process.
Mr. Olusegun Olusola Adewara (Sholyments), the PDP State Publicity Secretary, emphasized that the people of Kwara deserve to know the details of the auction to ensure transparency and accountability.
The press release questioned the secrecy surrounding the auction, asserting that the government’s failure to provide information since the completion of the auction on December 7th, 2023, raises suspicions.
The PDP demanded a detailed account of the income generated, information on the items auctioned, their unit prices, and the identities of the four registered auctioneers reportedly engaged by the government.
The PDP also reiterated its disapproval of the planned N17.8 billion renovation of Kwara Hotel, particularly in light of the state’s infrastructural deficit and deteriorating living conditions.
The party called for a clarification from the government on whether the funds are intended for renovation or the construction of a new hotel.
The press release commended the efforts of Civil Society Organizations, especially ENETSUD, for uncovering questionable dealings in the award of the hotel renovation contract valued at N5 billion to a company allegedly linked to Governor Abdulrazaq.
The PDP expressed concerns about the Governor’s potential ulterior motives, contrary to the interests of the people.
The PDP warned the management of Craneburg Construction Company, the firm allegedly involved in the renovation project, to be prepared to account for every penny received without due diligence.
The party advised the company to consider its reputation and resist any attempt by the Governor to engage in questionable activities, emphasizing that Kwara is not the place for such actions.
The PDP concluded by urging the government to prioritize transparency and accountability in all its dealings, particularly those related to public funds and assets.
