The Osun House of Assembly passed a bill on Tuesday, extending the retirement age of judges and other judicial officers from 65 to 70 years.
The bill, titled ‘Osun State High Court and Customary Court of Appeal Registrars, Secretary to the State Judicial Council, State Counsels in the Ministry of Justice, State Magistrates and District Customary Courts’ Presidents Retirement Age Bill, 2023,’ received unanimous approval during the plenary session at the Assembly complex in Osogbo, the state capital.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, announced that the final copy of the bill would be produced and forwarded to Governor Ademola Adeleke for his assent.
The bill’s passage, PremiumTimes gathered it aligns with the new constitutional provision signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in June, which extended the retirement age of judges.
