Ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations’ Round of 16 clash against the Indomitable Lions on Sunday, Nigerian football legends Olusegun Odegbami and Garba Lawal have emphasized the importance of caution, focus, discipline, and self-belief for the Super Eagles. Both former players, who have a wealth of experience in African football, stressed the need for the current squad to approach the match against Cameroon with diligence and clinical precision.
Odegbami, a member of Nigeria’s 1980 AFCON-winning squad and former team captain, drew parallels to his experiences playing against Cameroon in the 1970s and 1980s.
He highlighted the importance of being clinical with opportunities, given Cameroon’s ability to turn the game around, as witnessed in their recent match against Guinea.
Lawal, who faced the Lions four times between 1997 and 2004, stressed the significance of self-belief for the Super Eagles. Known as “Chindo,” Lawal expressed confidence in the team’s chances if they enter the game with a strong belief in their abilities and maintain defensive solidity.
