The German airline has extended the suspension of its flights to Tehran, on alert for Iranian retaliation for a fatal air strike on Iran’s embassy in Syria earlier this month.
Lufthansa spokesperson said it will be suspending flights to the Iranian capital until April 13, extending its suspension by two days, noting that it decided not to operate a flight from Frankfurt to Tehran last weekend to avoid the crew having to disembark to spend the night there.
Lufthansa and its subsidiary Austrian Airlines are the only Western carriers that fly into Tehran.
The region has been on alert for retaliatory strikes by Iran since April 1 when Israel allegedly bombed the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus, killing seven IRGC members, including two top generals.
