The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos on Saturday affirmed Jarigbe Jarigbe of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of the February 25th Cross River North Senatorial District election.
The court dismissed the petition by former governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, of the All Progressives Congress on the election and also awarded the sum of five hundred thousand naira against the former governor in favour of the incumbent senator.
Delivering the five-hour judgement, the chairman of the tribunal, Justice M. A. Sambo, held that both Ayade and the APC failed to prove their case adding that no evidence tendered before the court proved that the elections were marred with malpractices.
The former governor who was in the Senate between 2011 and 2015, lost the National Assembly elections with fifty-six thousand, five hundred and ninety-five votes against Jarigbe of the Peoples Democratic Party who scored seventy-six thousand, one hundred and forty-five votes.
