Social Analyst, Comrade Omotosho has appreciated a sense of justice in the country after the Federal Capital Territory High Court declared an adjournment until January 18, 2024, for the continuation of proceedings in the alleged procurement fraud case involving the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
Reports suggest that Emefiele faces allegations of misusing his position by providing illicit benefits to Sa’adatu Yaro, a staff member of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The accusations revolve around the purported procurement of 43 vehicles totaling 1.2 billion naira between 2018 and 2020.
The former CBN governor was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre following a ruling on his bail application on November 22. Although Justice Hamza Muazu granted bail, setting the amount at three hundred million naira, Emefiele has yet to fulfill the bail conditions, leading to his continued detention by the Nigerian Correctional Service.
In reaction to these developments, Social Analyst Comrade Omotosho expressed his views to RoyalTimes, acknowledging a semblance of justice prevailing despite the prevailing sense of conspiracy within the country.
“Although there is an underlying conspiracy in our nation, I am grateful that the Federal government took action against someone of Emefiele’s stature. It demonstrates that nobody, regardless of their status, is above the law,” Comrade Omotosho remarked, highlighting the importance of upholding the supremacy of the constitution.
The case against the former CBN governor continues to draw attention as the legal process unfolds, with Emefiele’s bail conditions remaining unmet, prolonging his stay in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
