In anticipation of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Kano governorship election dispute, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace in Kano State.
The two political parties signed a fresh peace accord before the State Joint Security Committee at the police command in the state.
The stakeholders reiterated their dedication to sustaining the peace accord signed, ensuring a peaceful environment for the upcoming Christmas/New Year festivities and dispelling concerns about potential unrest surrounding the Supreme Court verdict on the Governorship Election Petition.
NNPP Chairman in Kano, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, emphasized their commitment to non-violence, while
Shehu Maigari, the Deputy State party Chairman of the APC in Kano, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the party’s commitment to peace.
The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, addressed journalists, acknowledging the efforts of both the NNPP and APC in upholding the peace accord.
“The police command had adequately attended to a number of plots by some faceless political pressure groups who are hell-bent on fomenting trouble and to stampede on the general security situation of the State from being very peaceful as it is at now.” He said.
