South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos, has sent a warning to Nigeria ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, saying that the favourites don’t always win.
The Super Eagles appear to be slight favourites going into the game, however the tournament has already produced a number of shocking results.
Bafana Bafana, who reached the last four of the competition after eliminating Morocco, also held Tunisia to a draw during the group stages.
Ahead of today’s fixture against Nigeria, Broos referred to the Super Eagles as a very good team with big players in Europe.
He however added that although many people think Nigeria will be favourites to win the game, in football, it’s not always the favourite that wins.
“It’s a little bit the same situation with Morocco, a very good team with players in Europe with big teams, so you can compare it.
“I think for many people, Nigeria will be favourites to win that game, but as you know, in football, it’s not always the favourite that wins.”
