Civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has called for clarity over the release of abducted Kaduna schoolchildren.
HURIWA questioned why none of the terrorists who abducted the schoolchildren in Kaduna was apprehended especially if the government claims that ransom was paid for the release of the 137 pupils.
Speaking with State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced that no ransom was paid to free the kidnapped students.
His words: “It is clear that the Federal Government at the highest level knows what is going on, at least the intelligence community has an idea.”
“There are key Nigerians who are saying openly that they know more than they think the rest of us know, and I think that it is the business of the Federal Government to find out those who claim to know where the bandits are, those who are collaborating with the bandits.”
In response to this, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, the National Coordinator of HURIWA, in a statement, knocked the Federal Government over propaganda regarding the abduction.
