Pensioners retired from the Federal Civil Service have issued a nationwide protest threat against the Federal Government’s delay in paying their wage awards.
The pensioners, represented by the Federal Civil Service Pensioners, a subgroup of the National Union of Pensioners, expressed disappointment at the Bola Tinubu-led administration’s failure to fulfill its commitment to pay the wage awards amid the current economic challenges exacerbated by the removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Sunday Omezi, President of the Federal Civil Service Pensioners, lamented the dire situation faced by pensioners.
In a report, Omezi described the delay as “pathetic and disappointing,” stressing the urgent need for the government to fulfill its promise.
“It is rather distasteful, that, till date, no single payment has been made to pensioners ”
“We are hereby demanding immediate payment of the award, because it is so embarrassing, he said.”
