As economic challenges continue to grip Nigeria, veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O Kanayo has issued a stern warning to Igbos regarding the planned nationwide protest against the government led by President Bola Tinubu.
In a video that has gone viral, shared on his official Instagram page on Saturday night, Kanayo expressed his concerns over the economic downturn in the country and cautioned Igbos against participating in protests.
“Hunger has no religion. I have been looking for stores where only Muslims or Christians buy but I can’t see. So, I want to urge all Igbos to sing along with Davido’s ‘I’m unavailable’. Ndigbo are not available for protest in Nigeria.”
“It’s unfortunate that we are all going through this economic hardship but the fact is we are not available because in our own matters.”
“We are always the target, we should learn from what happened. Let’s guard ourselves and ensure that people who said we cannot be trusted with leadership, we also want to tell them that we can also not be trusted with protest.”
Citing the historical targeting of Igbos in Nigeria, Kanayo emphasized the need for caution and unity within the Igbo community. He urged Igbos to refrain from joining the protest and instead adopt the stance of Davido’s “I’m unavailable” song, symbolizing their disengagement from protest activities.
Expressing empathy for the prevailing economic crisis, the actor underscored the historical marginalization of Igbos and suggested that if Igbos are not entrusted with leadership roles in Nigeria, they should also abstain from participating in protests.
