The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has revealed the discovery of a significant number of illegal refineries and pipeline connections in the Niger Delta region over the past seven days, according to information released on its official Twitter handle on Tuesday.
In the statement, the NNPCL disclosed the unearthing of a total of 83 illegal refineries and 15 unauthorized pipeline connections within the Niger Delta region.
According to Dailypost, the illicit activities were reportedly identified in states including Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Bayelsa.
“In the past week, 15 illegal pipeline connections and 83 illegal refineries have been uncovered in the Niger Delta.
“83 illegal connections were spotted in Rivers, Abia, Imo and Bayelsa states”, the company said.
The NNPC emphasized its commitment to curbing the menace of illegal refineries, which contribute to environmental degradation and pose risks to the oil and gas infrastructure in the region.
