In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the media industry in Kwara State, Oyewale Oyelola, the Secretary of the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP), and Managing Editor of FactualTimes Online, has been honored with an award of excellence by The Kwara Tabloid.
The award was presented to Oyelola in the Heroes/Titans category during the 10th Kwara Tabloid Public Lecture/Award ceremony held at Fabbies Hall, Ilorin on Friday, December 22, 2023. The Kwara Tabloid, founded by Tunde Bakare, is a reputable media outfit known for its active engagement in discussions on critical state and national issues.
Oyewale Oyelola, also a Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, received the award alongside other distinguished personalities, including Dr. David Ehindero, Executive Director of Nigerian Workforce Strategy (NIWOSEC), Mrs. Aransiola, Managing Director of BAMB Pencil Lagos, and Mr. Muideen Ibrahim.
Expressing his gratitude, Oyelola described the recognition as a motivation to continue upholding the ethics of journalism, giving voice to the voiceless, and holding the government accountable as the fourth estate of the realm. He emphasized his commitment to contributing positively to the media landscape in Kwara State.
Oyelola, who is also the Registrar of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ), holds membership in reputable professional organizations, including the International Press Institute (IPI), the Nigerian Union of Journalists, and the Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN).
The award ceremony was graced by notable personalities such as Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe, Alhaji Adamu Attahiru Manko (represented by Alhaji Attahiru Manko), Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mary Arinde, SSA Public Relations to Kwara Governor, Hon Jerry Kolo, and others.
During the event, Dr. Yusuf from the University of Abuja delivered a lecture, encouraging Nigerian youths to acquire education and digital skills to enhance their employability. He also called for a review of the academic curriculum to align it with technological advancements and the reality in the country.
