In commemorations of the World Sickle Cell day, Medical Practitioners in Nigeria have created awareness for the disease while victims express challenges faced in Nigeria.
Victims who expressed their concern disclosed that some religious, cultural factors and stigmatization affected them.
While some medical practitioners in their remarks urge citizens whose blood group does not match their spouse to desist from creating a family.
In Kwara, the wife of Kwara State governor and founder, Ajike People Support Center, Olufolake Abdulrazaq, has procured health insurance cover for over 100 people living with the disease and renewed the health insurance cover for survivors who have been under the scheme since last year.
It is recalled that in 2008, the United Nations presented a resolution for countries globally to celebrate World Sickle Cell Day on June 19 to promote education about its genetic condition.
