The Akorede family of Ilorin has expressed dismay over the demolition of buildings on the family land at Babalawo-Budo Osho area behind Judges’ quarters in Ilorin.
The incident which almost led to a face-off took place on Saturday.
Alabi Abdulrasaq, Secretary to the Mogaji, Akorede family, Malam Yahaya Abdulganiyu, explained that a woman identified as Elizabeth Mohammed, who is laying claim to the land, allegedly went there with military personnel numbering about twenty, and supervised the demolition of structures under construction.
He stated that about ten buildings were destroyed with the least valued at about N5million.
According to him, efforts by policemen from F. Division to intervene during the demolition proved abortive as the soldiers were said to have threatened to shoot anyone who tries to stop the demolition, a situation that almost led to a face-off between the two security operatives.
While noting that the portion of land in question belongs to Akorede family, Alabi wondered why the woman took the unlawful decision to demolish people’s property when there’s a subsisting court case on the matter.
One of those affected, Alhaji Abdulfatai Yusuf said he was shocked to find his mosque and Arabic school under construction leveled without prior notice.
The case has now been reported at F. Division Police Station.
The Kwara state Geographic Information Service (GIS), in charge of land matters is yet to officially comment on the issue.
