The Executive Director of the National Cereals Research Institute Badeggi, Dr Aliyu Umar has called on the nation’s public servants, especially those in the agricultural sector to be involved in efforts aimed at ending the current security challenges facing the country as occasioned by the ungodly acts of bandits and kidnappers.
The NCRI boss made thE call on Tuesday, 17th August, 2021 at the institute’s Outstation located in Bacita Edu LGA of Kwara state while delivering his keynote address during a parley between the institute’s Governing Board members and the station’s staff.
Dr Aliyu Umar noted that it is obvious that the current security challenges facing the country can only be surmounted when every Nigerian especially the civil servants key into the mantra that security is everybody’s business.
He said public servants working in rural areas must be very vigilant about happenings in their environment and help the security agencies with information that can help in intelligence gathering, noting that the security agents can not do it all alone without collaboration with public servants.
He was also of the opinion that proper profiling of people who usually relocate to farming communities during cropping seasons must be done by agricultural workers in order to identify genuine farmers from impostors who in the name of farming cause havocs in rural areas.The Executive Director of NCRI also used the avenue to caution civil servants especially staff of the institute to be cautious in their movements as the present time calls for adequate vigilance while embarking on journeys.
On his part, the chairman of the institute’s governing board; Hon. Kunle Sanda praised the staff of the institute for playing vital roles in helping to achieve the goals of Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Programme of the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Also, while welcoming the board members and the Executive Director to Kwara state, the Head of the Bacita Outstation of the institute; Mr A. Y, Mumeen hailed the harmonious working relationship which exists between the institute’s board and its internal management as he revealed that NCRI is currently living up to its expectations of delivering sustainable technologies to the Nigerian farmers just because the board and the internal management has always worked selflessly together to better the lots of stakeholders across the value chain of the institute’s mandates.
