Operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) barricaded the main gate of the National Assembly in the early hours of today preventing lawmakers and staff from gaining access into the complex.
Although the motive for the blockade was not clear , the deveopmeent may not be unconnected with the call for an emergency meeting of the leadership of the National Assembly which the principal officers of the Senate and the House of Representatives are expected to attend today.
Meanwhile Senator Ben Murray-Bruce and some other senators has alleged that the heavy presence of security operatives at the National Assembly complex on Tuesday is to intimidate lawmakers and enable the impeachment of Senate President Bukola Saraki.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker representing Bayelsa East while addressing journalist earlier today claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers are planning to appoint Senator Godswill Akpabio as the Senate President.
However, after initially being prevented from entering the National Assembly complex, some senators have been allowed in by security agents.
