Tanzanian authorities today said they have started verifying registration certificates and licenses for firms that are engaged in tourism businesses in the east African nation.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Gaudence Milanzi, said the move is aimed at identifying and removing all unregistered and unlicensed firms from doing the tourism business.
According to Milanzi , unregistered and unlicensed firms have been linked to incidences of fraud including conning and causing unnecessary inconveniences to tourists adding that such incidences are tarnishing Tanzania’s image to tourists around the globe.
Milanzi also said that the government is currently issuing registration forms to tourist firms for 2018, warning that those seeking to register should provide valid and accurate information.
Meanwhile, the Ugandan police today said it will not allow a planned demonstration against a recently imposed government tax on the use of social media and mobile money transactions in the east African country.
Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima in a chat with newsmen said organizers of the demonstration slated for Wednesday did not seek police permission as required by law.
