The Nigeria National League has sanctioned three clubs in the division; Yobe Desert Stars, Osun United and UNICEM Rovers of Calabar for violating several safety rules at match venues.
According to a media statement signed by the chief operating officer of the NNL, Lawrence Katken, the three clubs will play their next three home matches in the League under strict closed doors for assaults on match officials and crowd encroachment.
UNICEM Rovers were fined a total of one million, eight hundred and eighty seven thousand and five hundred naira for assaulting match officials that handled their match day-nineteen with Warri Wolves at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
The NNL also fined Yobe Desert Stars two million naira and restricted their fans from attending three home matches for assault on match officials and encroachment during their match day-sixteen clash against Abuja based FRSC at the August twenty-seventh Stadium in Damaturu.
Osun United were also fined one million naira after their supporters assaulted the referees after their match day-nineteen encounter against Warri Wolves at the Osun Township Stadium, Osogbo. Osun United duo of Victor Okeji and Obasi Chigozie were also placed on a year ban for assaulting the center referee.
