World Bank appoints Chaudhuri Country Director for Nigeria

 

The World Bank has appointed Mr Shubham Chaudhuri as the new Country Director for Nigeria, succeeding Mr Rachid Benmessaoud who completed his term recently. The statement was issued today in Abuja by the World Bank’s Senior Communications Officer of Nigeria.

According to the statement, Chaudhuri is said to be a U.S. national but he grew up in India and joined the World Bank in 2004 and he has held several leadership positions at the Bank, with his most recent position being Country Director for Afghanistan.

However, the new appointed country director of Nigeria,Chaudhuri said it is an honour to be in Nigeria and also have the opportunity to help government partners at the Federal and state levels to realise Nigeria’s full and considerable potential.

He further stated that he look forward to deepening their engagement with government partners, with Nigeria’s very vibrant civil society and private sector and with international development partners to help invest in Nigeria’s children and creating opportunities for Nigeria’s youth and women in orther to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty.
