The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has raised alarm and expressed deep concern over the detention of health workers in the Gaza Strip and the prolonged checks of health convoys, which tragically resulted in the death of a patient.
Tedros took to social media to share his concerns, emphasizing the critical nature of timely medical assistance and the potential risks imposed on the health and lives of already fragile patients due to the unwarranted delays faced by health workers.
In his statement, Tedros disclosed that the extended detention of health workers not only jeopardizes the safety of the medical professionals but also puts the lives of vulnerable patients at significant risk.
The WHO-led mission to Ahli Arab Hospital faced a significant setback on Saturday when it was halted at a checkpoint on its way to north Gaza.
The delay resulted in the death of a patient due to the severity of their wounds and the critical importance of receiving timely medical treatment.
