Following a triumphant victory against Ghana in an international friendly, Super Eagles interim coach Finidi George has hinted at injecting fresh talent into the team’s lineup for their upcoming match against Mali.
In a post-match interview, Finidi acknowledged the need for rotation and hinted at several changes to keep the squad dynamic and competitive.
The Super Eagles secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over arch-rivals Ghana on Friday, with established players such as Wilfred Ndidi, Cyriel Dessers, Kelechi Ihenacho, and Bright Osayi-Samuel leading the charge.
Looking ahead to the encounter with Mali, Finidi emphasized the importance of managing player workload and hinted at introducing fresh faces to bolster the team’s performance.
“Definitely, we are going to see new players. Definitely, we cannot overload the players.
“Some will come in, and we will see the areas where they can help,” Finidi said.
While the Super Eagles celebrate their victory, Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, expressed disappointment over his team’s loss, believing they deserved more from the encounter.
“I don’t like to look too much about the positives because we lost. But I think we were a bit unlucky in the way we conceded the first goal as the ball hit the hand but like I said we were unlucky,” Addo said.
“First half they had the better chances but in the second half we really really did well. If you want to come to the positive signs, the things we did in the second half with 10 men were good.
“We controlled them; we were a bit unlucky with the finishing. I think what killed us was their second goal because we were close to actually equalising, but in all, a draw would have been deserved.
Like I said, we lost and we have to improve and move on.”
