The National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Mohammed Ibrahim has appealed to the Federal Government to release the withheld four months salaries of its members to help reduce the economic hardship on them.
It would be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had in October 2023 announced that his government would pay four months of the withheld salaries to members of ASUU, leaving both SSANU and the Non-Academic Staff of Educational and Associated Institutions, who also embarked on the nationwide industrial action in 2022, in limbo.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Ibrahim noted that the union’s patience was running out if the Federal Government did not do the needful, revealing that a final decision would be taken within the next seven days.
The president added that the poor economy was taking a toll on its members and the four months’ salaries once released will help cushion its effects.
He however threatened that the continuous work environment to function cannot be guaranteed if their demands are not met.
