Senate Speaks On Alleged Plot To Impeach Akpabio

Senate Speaks On Alleged Plot To Impeach Akpabio

The Senate says there is no plan to impeach the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, as reported in some sections of the media.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Yemi Adaramodu, said this in a statement over the weekend in Abuja.

“Collecting signatures is one thing and getting the number to impeach Akpabio is another. Impeachment is by a two-thirds majority, not a simple majority. You know that 63 of us voted for Akpabio. He gave us appointments and some people from the other side also got appointments as chairmen of committees. Do you think they will support his impeachment?” he said.

Premium times gathered that Mr Adaramodu was reacting to a report by a national newspaper that some senators are plotting from Saudi Arabia to impeach Mr Akpabio, who assumed office on 13 June.
