The Rivers State Police Command on Wednesday said it had begun a full-scale investigation into the explosion that claimed many lives at an illegal oil refining site in the state.
According to the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, the Force said the probe was to unravel the root cause of the inferno which it said was due to pipeline vandalism, adding that the culprits would be apprehended and brought to justice.
According to reports, the death toll from the explosion continues to rise as eight more deaths were recorded, however, spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, (NSCDC), in the state, Olufemi Ayodele, acknowledged that eighteen victims were burnt beyond recognition while twenty-five injured persons were rescued.
