Reps summon Humanitarian Minister, Betta Edu over Cash Transfer Programme

written by Royal Times of Nigeria October 31, 2023

The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, summoned the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, to appear before it.

In sequel to a motion of urgent public importance, the House wants the Minister to brief it on the status of the conditional cash transfer programme of the President Bola Tinubu led Federal Government to 15 million households.

The House expressed worry over the handling of the programme, questioning the lack of transparency in it, asking the minister to give details on the collation of data and distribution of the funds.

Recall that the President had in October launched the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer for 15 million households.

The House expressed worry over the handling of the programme, questioning the lack of transparency in it and the minister is expected to give details on the collation of data and distribution of the funds.

The humanitarian affairs minister had disclosed that the 15 million households represent 62 million Nigerians and the sum of N25,000 would be transferred to the beneficiaries every month, for three months, amounting to N75,000 for each of the beneficiaries.
