Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, is once again enveloped in mourning following the untimely passing of veteran actor John Okafor, famously known as Mr Ibu. Known for his iconic comic roles in movies and skits, Mr Ibu’s demise has left the industry in profound grief.
Mr Ibu was confirmed dead on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at a hospital in Lagos, reportedly due to a cardiac arrest. His passing came just a day after the loss of another actor, Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, in Osun State.

Actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie also paid her respects, writing, “It is well… rest well, sir,” while Peter Okoye of the pop group P-Square mourned the loss, saying, “Rest well, Mr Ibu. We will definitely miss you, brother.”
