Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors Suspends Planned Protest, Says Strike Continues

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its protest slated for Wednesday August 9, 2023, after a closed-door meeting with principal officers of the senate.

NARD President, Innocent Orji, who made the confirmation to journalists, however, stated that the industrial action by the association continues, noting that the doctors will review its decision in seventy-two hours.

Orji said the government on its own set up a ministerial committee that came up with a guideline since February 2023 but has not been circularized, noting that the circular, if implemented, would help to reduce the brain drain as doctors would be immediately recruited upon the completion of their education.

He also alleged that the government has not shown commitment to meeting the demands of the Association.
