In their inaugural match at the 13th African Games, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles suffered a disappointing defeat against Uganda, with a final score of 2-1 on Thursday night.
Uganda broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute, capitalizing on a well-executed counterattack, with Arafat Usama finding the back of the net, leaving the Nigerian defense scrambling to recover. Nigeria quickly responded, with Isiyaka equalizing the score in the 37th minute with a powerful header from a corner kick.
Despite some chances in the second half, including Godwin Sampson’s header, which was easily handled by the Ugandan goalkeeper, Nigeria struggled to find the back of the net.
Uganda seized the decisive moment in the 80th minute when Ivan Irinimbabazi unleashed a fierce shot from outside the box, burying the ball into the bottom right corner, securing the victory for the Young Cranes.
