Marketers Lament Surge In Tomato Price, Call For Government Intervention

Marketers have lamented the surge in the price of tomato, stating that the recent increase in price have led to traders suspending their business.

It was gathered that tomatoes now sell for between ninety thousand naira and one hundred thousand naira, compared to the previous price of twenty thousand naira.

Speaking to journalists, Ronke Saliu stated that the price increase also applies to another type of pepper known as “Bawa,” while, Mrs Saliu lamented that with fifty thousand naira, which previously allowed her to purchase two baskets of tomatoes and one basket of pepper can now only afford one basket of tomatoes.

The marketers however called on the federal government to intervene, stating that the hike in price has affected sales.
