A clarion call has gone to all the officials of Local Government Council in the State to further reposition the Local Government Administration for better performance and also to justify the confidence reposed on them by the good People of Kwara state.
The Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Elder Kayode Alabi disclosed this at the official declaration of Workshop on Leadership Ethics and Code of Conduct in public office for Top Officials of all the Councils in the State at National Centre For Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM) Ilorin.
He commended the Leadership and members of Kwara State Association Of Local Government Of Nigeria (ALGON) for coming up with the training for their Officials, adding that it is a testimony to the autonomy of Local Councils in taking their decisions without any form of interference from any organ of State.
According to the Deputy Governor, “as the Chief Accounting Officers of your various Councils, you are expected to stabilize the Local Government Areas and put in place structures to ensure probity, accountability, transparency and prudence in the management of Local Government resources”.
Elder Kayode described the Local Government as the closest tier of Government to the People, hence a well structured Local Government Administration will not only help in bringing government closer to the People but also bring about overall development and provision of basic needs of life for the grassroots.
He charged all the participants to strive hard to provide quality leadership, adhere to the Code of Conduct and most importantly live above board in the discharge of their duties.
In his goodwill message, Chairman, Kwara State Local Government Service Commission who also doubles as the Chairman Kwara State Local Government Pension Board, Alhaji Umar Danladi Shero thanked the Executive Governor of Kwara State,Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for providing an enabling environment for the Third tier of Government to thrive independently.
Earlier in his opening address, Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman of Ifelodun who also doubles as the ALGON Chairman in the state Hon Jide John Ashonibare disclosed that all the TIC Chairmen attended a national programme on Leadership, Ethics and Code of Conduct at National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru,Jos after which moves to organised the current worship was birthed culminating to subsequent invites extended to resource persons to train top officials across councils in the state.
Hon Ashonibare further explained that among the purposes of the seminar was to replicate and tread the path that has been laid by the present administration which has yielded various development across all sectors in all council areas.
He concluded that the seminar which has been put in place for all the TIC Chairmen, Supervisorsy Counselors, Director Personnel Management (DPM), Local Government Treasurers and Heads of Departments will last for four days.
