A Bill to ensure due process, transparency, competitiveness and check corrupt practices in the award of contracts in Kwara State was today passed into law by the State House of Assembly.
The Bill tagged “Kwara State Public Procurement Agency” will give legal backing to the establishment of the agency that would start to regulate award of contracts above one hundred million naira in the State.
Speaking on significance of the bill, Leader of the House, Honourable Hassan Oyeleke said the executive bill, in view of the prevailing condition in the Country, would help to ensure perfection and competitiveness in the way things are done by the state government.
The Speaker, Doctor Ali Ahmad who presided over today’s plenary directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy of the bill for the governor’s assent.
The Speaker expressed confidence that the law would further strengthen anti-corruption processes and Institutions in the State as it now provides room for local content which gives room for kwarans to play active roles in any contract awarded to any company.
