Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles III will undergo treatment for a benign prostate condition, with a corrective procedure scheduled for next week.
The Palace emphasized that the 75-year-old monarch’s condition is non-cancerous, but the medical intervention is deemed necessary.
While the specific details of the corrective procedure were not disclosed, the Palace stated that King Charles’s public engagements will be postponed temporarily to allow for a period of recuperation.
The King had to cancel scheduled meetings with foreign dignitaries and cabinet members in Scotland on Thursday, prompting the release of the medical update.
It is also thought the King was keen to share his diagnosis with the public to encourage other men who may be experiencing symptoms to get checked.
“In common with thousands of men each year, the King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate,” the statement said.
