In a move aimed at enhancing the welfare of federal government workers, President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the payment of renewal fees for the Group Life Assurance, amounting to approximately N9.6 billion.
As reported by PremiumTimes, the decision was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at the conclusion of the first 2024 meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) held in Abuja on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Education, Yusuf Sununu, confirmed that the government’s plan to launch student loans in January is on track. He revealed that the necessary provisions had been made in the 2024 budget and that a website was already operational for students meeting the criteria to apply.
“There are about 12 insurance companies involved. It is a normal annual cover that insurance companies give workers. So, in the event of death or severe injury, they can resort to and so that their families would not have to suffer,’’ he said.
Mr Idris said the approval was part of the administration’s determination to accord all its workers the needed reward that would improve efficiency, productivity and service delivery to Nigerians.
