The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele was on Friday ordered to be remanded in prison pending the determination of his bail request.
The High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory passed the order that Emefiele, who is standing trial on an alleged procurement fraud, be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The Federal Government had initially preferred twenty charges on procurement fraud to the tune of six point five billion naira against the former apex bank governor, but reduced the charges to six to the tune of over one billion naira
The presiding judge, Justice Hamza Muazu said a bench ruling could not be delivered in view of the plethora of authorities cited by the defence and prosecution counsels before adjourning the case till November 22 for ruling on the bail application and November 28 for the commencement of trial.
