Five persons have been confirmed dead with twelve others injured following an accident along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Tuesday.
The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Tuesday, revealing that the accident occurred around 1:07pm and was caused by the bus driver, who lost control of the wheels while sleeping, ramming into a moving truck.
Okpe said a total of eighteen people, comprising ten men and eight women, were involved in the accident
The FRSC spokesperson added that the injured victims were taken to a hospital in Ogere, while the corpses were deposited at a mortuary in Ipara.
“A total of 18 people, comprising 10 men and eight women, were involved in the accident. Twelve people were injured, and unfortunately, five persons were also recorded dead in the crash.
“The suspected cause of the fatal crash was fatigue, which led to loss of control because the driver slept off on the wheels and rammed into a moving truck,” she said.
The FRSC spokesperson added that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital in Ogere, while the corpses were deposited at the FOS mortuary in Ipara. (NAN)
