Following the conclusion of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to implement measures against the widespread hardship, Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress on Tuesday stormed the streets of Lagos State to express their grievances over the current economic hardship.
They are also protesting the government’s alleged failure to implement agreements reached between both parties on October 2, 2023, following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
The meeting between the federal government and the NLC on Monday ended in deadlock as the union vowed to kick off the protest. The protest is expected to continue on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Trade Union Congress on Tuesday said it will not be part of the planned two-day nationwide protest over the current economic hardship in the country. It has also advocated for the importation of food and waivers for importers of raw materials for manufacturing goods
According to the union president Festos Osifo, the government has responded to some of the October 2023 agreement and will continue the engagement to realize others.
