Confusion has deepened within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State as a third aspirant, Anamero Dekeri, emerged as a claimant to victory in the governorship primary election.
According to Ojo Babatunde, who spoke on behalf of all the local government returning officers, Dekeri secured 25,384 votes, defeating Dennis Idahosa, who garnered 14,127 votes, thus claiming the top position.
Anamero Dekeri currently serves as the member representing Etsako Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives.
Initially, a total of 12 aspirants were cleared for the direct primary by the national leadership of the party. However, before the election, three candidates – Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Lucky Imasuen, and Ernest Umakhihe – withdrew from the race.
Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who chaired the primary election committee, declared Dennis Idahosa as the winner. Contrarily, the returning officer for the primary, Stanley Ugboaja, announced Senator Monday Okpebholo as the APC candidate.
