The Ministry of Works has announced that preliminary works for the highly anticipated Abuja-Lagos Superhighway are slated to commence in the year 2024.
The disclosure, made on Friday, revealed that the project has been allocated a total of five hundred million naira in the proposed budget for 2024, pending formal approval from the National Assembly.
Works Minister, Senator David Umahi, had previously declared in September that the ambitious 470-kilometer Abuja-Lagos Greenfield superhighway is projected to be completed by 2027.
Umahi emphasized that the road, spanning Lagos, Oyo, Kogi, Ekiti, Ogun, Niger, Kwara, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), will be constructed by a private sector consortium at no cost to the federal government.
The Minister outlined plans to toll the superhighway, allowing investors to recoup their investments. Umahi envisions transforming the road into a business and industrial corridor, incorporating hotels, factories, housing estates, and other facilities along the route.
